It wasn’t all that long ago when the idea of wearable technology (wearables) was relegated to sci-fi movies. These days, however, you’d be hard pressed to find someone — anyone — who isn’t wearing a device somewhere on his or her body.

What tech devices are we wearing? All sorts! There are the ubiquitous fitness trackers, which encourage us to stay active, help us get our steps in, and even tell us how well we slept last night. More advanced trackers can help with race training or serve as motivation for pushing yourself to achieve new goals, while task-specific trackers can help you sit up straighter or even meditate.

All of these wearables are smart: there are smart watches, smart jewellery, smart clothing, and smart headphones that do so much more than just play your favourite tunes. Plus, with entrepreneurs and innovators working on new wearable tech and crowdfunding their development, it’s safe to say that there are lots of new and exciting wearables to come.
