Orbotix Sphero 2.0 – Connected Toys
Ok, now this Sphero roboter is a smart device, but it won’t make your dinner, improve your fitness, and it won’t update your doctor with your blood pressure and heart-rate. It is, however, pretty darn cool, and arguably my favourite connected toy ever made!
Sphero – The Round Robot
The Orbotix Sphero combines the fun of a video game, the technological advances of robotics, and the absolute simplicity of a sphere.
The Sphero 2.0 is a ball that is controlled via app. There are already 25+ apps (and counting) for the sphero. These range from simple remote control fun games, all the way to educational games and everything in-between.
At just four inches in diameter, the Sphero 2.0 packs some of the latest in gyroscopic technology in it’s small frame. As it is waterproof there are no openings at all, everything is contained within it’s white outer shell, not letting you see any of it’s secrets.
Carefully packed inside this white shell is a tiny robot that uses a gyroscope to balance on two wheels, very similar to a mini segway device. The physics then works akin to a hamster in a hamster ball. The robot inside runs around the inner shell in respect to the commands given to it by the user (via one of the many apps)
This fun app controlled smart ball Works with iOS and Android, plus programmable with Open API to be used with over 25 apps.
Not only is it a great fun remote controlled toy, it’s also a great learning tool. There are apps that help the younger generation, and those a little less tech-savvy, learn about robotics and programming. These are essential skills for an ever increasing technological environment. It’s also very satisfying to see your Sphero obey the programming you created.
Why do I need this?
Sphero 2.0 is designed for people who like to have more challenging and intelligent fun. It’s a amazing gadget that can do a whole range of things, while being easy to use.
Once you start with the Sphero, you’ll quickly be on a ……roll………. OK, sorry, I had to get in at least one pun.
