LG Urbane 2 Launch Pushed Back Indefinitely
LG has officially postponed the release of the much-anticipated Urbane 2 smartwatch until further notice.
The company was set to launch the Urbane 2 later this year but has been forced to suspend the arrangements indefinitely citing ‘hardware issues’ that it could not specify.
The cancellation is expected to affect Google Android Wear as well, as the device in question would be the first smartwatch to access cellular data networks, using Android Wear technology, without having to pair with a smartphone.
It’s understood that preorders in the US had started, and that some people had already bought the product, but following the decision to pull the device from the shelves, LG has assured customers of a full refund for all outstanding orders.
Future release of the product is not guaranteed either. “Whether the device will be available in the future will be decided at a later time. For now, our top priority is to ensure that only products that meet our very specific quality standards are available for purchase,” read a statement from LG.
It’s not only a major disappointment to LG but also to the entire world of technology, as this device, with which you could receive calls without necessarily reaching for your smartphone, would have set the standards for similar and even better smartwatch technologies in the future.
